Optometrist DisabilityINSURANCE

Questions

Straight answers for optometrists.

How the program works, what each policy pays, and what to expect when you ask for a quote.

01

The program

Who is this program for?
Optometrists. The overhead coverage is built for practice owners. Individual disability coverage protects your personal income, whether you own a practice or work as an associate.
Is the program available in my state?
Yes. The program is available in all 50 states.
What makes this program different?
It is written only for optometrists. It offers preferred pricing, limited underwriting on overhead coverage, enhanced underwriting on individual disability coverage, and a 10% premium discount.
What does the 10% discount apply to?
It applies to overhead expense coverage in the program and to individual disability policies issued through it.

02

Overhead expense

What is business overhead expense insurance?
It is coverage that helps pay a practice's fixed expenses if the owner can't work due to illness or injury. It pays the business, not you.
What does the overhead benefit pay?
The program offers a $4,000 monthly benefit toward eligible fixed expenses, such as rent, staff salaries, equipment leases and utilities. Your policy lists exactly which expenses qualify.
How long does the overhead benefit last?
The benefit period in this program is 12 months.
Does overhead insurance pay my salary?
No. It pays eligible practice expenses. Individual disability insurance is the policy that replaces part of your own income.

03

Disability insurance

Does disability insurance pay if I lose my job?
No. Disability insurance pays when an illness or injury keeps you from working. It does not pay for job loss.
How much of my income can I insure?
Carriers set limits based on your income, so a policy replaces a share of it, not all of it. Your agent shows you the most you qualify for.
Do I need this if my employer offers group coverage?
Group coverage helps, but it often has lower limits and may end when you leave the job. An individual policy stays with you. Many optometrists carry both.
What is an own-occupation definition?
It defines disability as being unable to do the main duties of your own occupation. With a true own-occupation definition, you can collect benefits if you can't practice optometry, even if you could do other work.

04

Quotes and applying

Do I answer health questions to get a quote?
No. The quote form asks for your name, contact details and state. Health questions come later, during the application.
What does limited underwriting mean?
It means a lighter review than a standard application, usually with fewer health questions. Approval still depends on your answers. Your agent explains what applies to you.
Who will contact me after I ask for a quote?
A licensed insurance agent. You can meet your agent here.
Can I get life insurance too?
Yes. We quote term and whole life alongside your disability coverage. Life insurance is offered separately from the optometrist program.
